Field Robotics Engineer – Data Operations

About the role

The Data Operations team is seeking a Field Robotics Engineer to own the end‑to‑end integration of multi‑sensor recording systems that feed STARK’s AI stack. You will work at the critical hardware‑software interface, ensuring raw sensor data is captured, synchronized and calibrated for machine‑learning pipelines, both in the lab and on field campaigns across Europe.

Key responsibilities

• Integrate sensor suites (EO/IR cameras, gimbals, lidar, radar, IMU, GNSS) from electrical interfaces to functional recording pipelines.
• Design and implement sensor drivers and ROS2 nodes using protocols such as I2C, SPI, CAN, Serial, MIPI/CSI‑2, GigE Vision, and Ethernet (RTSP/UDP).
• Solve temporal synchronization across distributed sensors using PTP, PPS and hardware triggering.
• Develop and execute intrinsic and extrinsic calibration routines to spatially unify sensor rigs.
• Build and optimise the onboard recording stack on NVIDIA Jetson platforms, including hardware‑accelerated video pipelines (GStreamer) and efficient logging (MCAP/rosbag).
• Evaluate new sensors hands‑on, probe electrical interfaces, benchmark SDKs and translate results into integration decisions.
• Participate in field data‑collection campaigns across Europe, deploying and validating systems under real‑world conditions.
