Intern – Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) REMAP

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a motivated intern to support the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Regional Evidence for Migration Analysis and Policy (REMAP) project. Working from the Berlin office, you will assist the Global DTM Coordinator and the Senior Programme Manager in implementing data‑driven migration analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the collection, compilation, and analysis of structured and unstructured mobility data from multiple sources.
• Support the development of data visualisations using HTML5/JavaScript frameworks.
• Contribute to natural language processing and sentiment‑analysis tasks where applicable.
• Collaborate with the project team to ensure smooth implementation of ongoing work packages.

Required profile

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Analytics or a related field.
• At least two years of relevant professional or research experience.
• Fluency in written and spoken English; additional knowledge of Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Russian, Uzbek or another UN language is a plus.

Required skills

• Strong SQL development abilities.
• Proficiency in Python 3 (or another multipurpose programming language).
• Experience with data‑visualisation tools such as AngularJS, NodeJS or D3.
• Familiarity with Natural Language Processing and Sentiment Analysis techniques.
• Interest in spatio‑temporal data and Big Data technologies.
