Mechanical Design Engineer – Closures Engineering

About the role

Join Tesla's Vehicle Engineering team in Berlin as a Mechanical Design Engineer focused on closures systems. You will help create next‑generation automotive doors, hoods, liftgates and related mechanisms, contributing to Tesla’s sustainable mobility mission.

Key responsibilities

• Support the development of closures system components for Tesla vehicle product lines.
• Conceptualize, design, engineer, release and launch closures parts, meeting targets for appearance, function, quality, cost and weight.
• Define system architecture, functional feasibility and manufacturing processes, selecting appropriate materials.
• Collaborate with internal and external suppliers to meet vehicle development milestones and production builds.
• Evaluate design alternatives using DFMEA, fault trees, decision matrices and other development tools.
• Provide technical guidance to Global Supply Managers for strategic sourcing and supplier performance.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience with proven exceptional ability.
• Self‑starter with a strong work ethic, integrity and a can‑do attitude.
• Curiosity for new technologies and willingness to solve hands‑on engineering challenges.
• Knowledge of stamping, hemming, welding, painting, GA and injection processes.

Required skills

• Mechanical engineering fundamentals.
• DFSS, DFMEA, DVP&R, GD&T, tolerance stack‑up analysis.
• Quality tools: Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, SPC.
• Experience with stamping, hemming, welding, painting and injection molding processes.
